Responder settings

ArcGIS Mission Responder users must sign in to their ArcGIS Enterprise portal before they can access their missions (see Access ArcGIS Mission Responder for details). After signing in to Responder, you can access the Responder Settings screen by tapping your avatar in the upper right corner of the screen.

The Responder Settings screen contains information about your version of Responder and about ArcGIS Mission as a whole. It includes settings that allow you to change how you and your device interact with the mission.

You can find the following on the Responder Settings screen:

  • User name and avatar
  • Sign out
  • Dark Mode
  • Location settings
  • Background messages (Android only)
  • Notification Settings (iOS only)
  • Third-party sensor settings
  • About Mission Responder
  • Web help
  • View Portal QR Code
Note:

The default options are recommended for most users. It is recommended that you do not change them without direct instruction from your organization or administrator. Doing so may impair Responder functionality.

Connection status

Also displayed with your profile icon is your connection status. ArcGIS Mission Responder users can be in one of three statuses:

  • Active—The user is connected to the mission and actively looking at the map screen.
  • Away—The user is connected to the mission but is not actively looking at the map screen.
  • Disconnected—The user is not connected to the mission.

User name

This displays your name and the user name assigned to you in your organization's ArcGIS Enterprise portal.

Sign out

The Sign out option on the settings page is the only place you can sign out of Responder. Signing out closes your active mission and returns you to the home screen. However, your portal URL is stored and can be selected again for future sessions.

Dark Mode

Dark mode is available for users who want or need to reduce their screen brightness. Dark mode affects all of the Responder screens and tools but it does not affect the mission map itself.

To activate or deactivate dark mode, simply toggle it on or off.

Location settings

The Location settings page allows you to change your location reporting strategy. This changes the rate at which the app reports your location to the mission server and therefore the interval of time at which your location is updated in the mission.

The following reporting strategies are available:

  • Static rate—This option sets your location reporting interval at a constant rate.
  • Dynamic rate—This option changes your location reporting interval based on your movement speed. The faster your movement, the more frequently the app reports your location, down to a preset minimum interval.

These settings can affect battery life and server functionality under certain circumstances.

Background messages (Android only)

Android users have the option to determine the way the app behaves while in the background. These settings allow you to turn on or off whether you will send your location tracks and receive messages if the app is in the background.

  • Always—Report your location and receive message traffic as long as Responder is installed.
  • When device is in use—Report your location and receive message traffic only while the device is active.
  • When app is in use—Report your location and receive message traffic only while the ArcGIS Mission Responder app is active.

Notification Settings (iOS only)

This setting allows iOS users to choose whether they will receive notifications of message traffic when the app is in the background. Opening this menu takes users into the Settings app on their iOS device.

Third-party sensor settings

ArcGIS Mission Responder can integrate with third-party hardware to enhance app functionality, including enabling mesh networking and sensor reports. Those integrations are listed and enabled here.

Each device that can be connected to the Responder app will be listed, as will the status of any connections that have been established previously. To connect to a third-party device for use with ArcGIS Mission Responder, complete the following workflow:

  1. Open the Responder Settings screen.
  2. Ensure Bluetooth permissions have been granted.
  3. Ensure the third-party device is turned on.
  4. Tap Connect next to the device you want to enable.

There may be a physical interaction with the third-party device required to ensure the connection is established. If you must interact with the device, the app will inform you of what action needs to be taken.

If the connection is successfully established, a message informs you that the device was connected successfully. If a connection could not be established, an error message appears.

If, while the third-party device is enabled, the app loses connection to the device, a message informs you that the connection was lost. The app will automatically attempt to reconnect to the device until a connection is reestablished or you unpair it from the app.

To unpair a third-party device, complete the following workflow:

  1. Open the Responder Settings screen.
  2. Tap Forget next to the device you want to unpair.

A dialog box appears asking you to confirm your choice.

  3. Tap Confirm.

A message informs you that the device was unpaired.

View Portal QR Code

ArcGIS Mission Responder can use the device's QR code scanner to access the portal quickly and efficiently. Access to the scanner is embedded in the ArcGIS Mission Responder portal login screen, and the codes, which are generated either in ArcGIS Mission Manager or by other Responder users, allow users to skip the portal login process and go straight to entering their user credentials.

Note:

This workflow assumes that the user already has access to an appropriate QR code.

Use the QR code scanner by completing the following steps:
  1. Open the ArcGIS Mission Responder app.
  2. Tap Sign in with ArcGIS Enterprise.
  3. Tap Scan QR Code.

If this is the first time using the QR code scanner, you will have to grant permission for the app to access it.

  4. Scan the QR code you have available.
  5. Enter your user credentials to access the portal.

If you have already signed in and want to access another portal with a QR code, you must first sign out and begin the process at step 2.

Access the portal QR code

To access the portal QR code from the settings screen, do the following:
  1. Tap to open the Responder Settings screen.
  2. Tap View Portal QR code.

From this screen, you can display the QR code to other Responder users or copy the portal URL to the device to share it.

Having access to the portal QR code and URL from inside the app allows Responder users to share the URL to others quickly and easily. This can be especially important in situations in which a large number of mission members are coming and going throughout the life of the mission.
